John McLelland

John McLelland has performed with many notable Canadian Jazz Musicians such as Rick Wilkins, Peter Appleyard, Rob McConnell, Mike Grace, Duncan Hopkins, Mike Malone and Dave McMurdo as well as Vocalists Trish Coulter, Jackie Richardson, Heather Bambrick, Mary Catherine McNinch Pazzano and Carol Wellsman (to name a few)!


He is a founding member as well as Pianist and Principal Composer of the Phoenix Jazz Group whose music has been heard for several years on Canada’s premier jazz station JAZZ FM 91.1 in Toronto as well as Jazz stations in the U.S. and New Zealand.


He taught music for many years in the Waterloo Region at Bluevale Collegiate where he was recipient of the Stewart Award for Teaching Excellence. He recently returned from a three year teaching adventure in New Zealand at James Hargest College where he was Director of the Concert Band and Jazz Ensembles as well as teaching Jazz Improvisation. He is passionate about helping others find their won Creative Voice and discovering the fine art of Blues/Jazz Improvisation.
